Food Note

Joe and I ended the weekend on a food note. Yes, food. That is not a typo. I had a half drank bottle of Christmas ale that I couldn’t possibly let go to waste, so I marinated some filets.

I also added cayenne, cocoa powder, salt, pepper, and garlic. Our Sunday dinner was absolutely delicious. Cooking in usually beats ordering out (Usually. When pizza is involved, that’s a different story.)

We enjoyed a Rhone blend with our meal.

I used Omaha Steaks that our friends sent us for Christmas. The package also came with potatoes stuffed with cheese, sour cream, bacon, and chives, which were a great accompaniment.

Somehow, Gus knows who to go to for the goods.

Even though last week was technically when everyone was back to work, it still feels like this week was the true start to 2013. It’s my first full week of work in almost a month! I’m extremely busy since our company 2013 kickoff meeting is this Thursday and Friday. Exciting!

I can’t tell you how awesome it is to have a gym right in my office. Yesterday, I got in some cardio and an intense ab workout after work.

Today, I wanted the extra sleep but I really didn’t want to stay after work, so I did the next best thing: Lunch workout!

I did a total upper body workout and a 15 minute cool down on the upper body ergometer and treadmill. I usually am not one to workout on lunch break because I’m a sweater, but it’s too convenient not to take advantage of. I tried to keep it low key, getting my heart rate up but attempting not to get too sweaty. I just brought some dry shampoo and body wipes. Problem solved!

I’m a pretty good eat-lunch-at-desk-er so I just plowed through e-mails that came through during my workout while I ate. I also brought a Honeysuckle Pear Drink Chia that the company sent me a while ago. I’ve tried a lot of the flavors (first at HLS), but this one was not my favorite. Luckily I still have 3 more at home to try!

PHIT America

I recently came across this campaign through a colleague and thought some of you would be interested to hear, and even spread the word!

phitamerica

Did you know that America is the most obese country in the world? What do you think is driving our healthcare costs up and up? PHIT America is “A Movement for a Fit & Healthy America”. One thing that caught my attention almost immediately was the PHIT Act (Personal Health Investment Today Act). PHIT America wants to pass this Act to allow Americans to use pre-tax medical accounts for physical activity expenses. Cool right? I totally agree with this, because I believe that prevention is truly the key. Getting America to move more is probably the one step not taken enough for disease prevention; it’s usually disease control (drugs) after the fact. The website seems to be up and coming, but I’m excited to help spread the word and get the Act signed!

I’ve only worked out over lunch a few times when I worked in an office, and I really didn’t mind it either. Luckily, I’m not a HUGE sweater, so I didn’t have to fully shower, but it was more just a pain to remember to bring all of my things with me. So long as I planned ahead, it usually worked out fine.

That is pretty sweet you have a gym right in your office! I remember at my office job I tried so hard to drive to the gym, workout, and get back before lunch was over. It always left me so stressed and frazzled! Having it right there would make it much better.
