A New Addition to the Family

(No, I’m not pregnant.)

(This was written yesterday but I was just able to post it now. I’ve been in New Orleans since last night!)

Hi! I’m blogging from an airplane right now. Well, not really. United still hasn’t jumped on the wireless train (or should I say airplane?) so I’m just writing the post and I’ll publish it later.

I stayed home with my Mom after Thanksgiving until Saturday night. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know that there is a new member of the family.

Say “hi” to Gus! He’s a pure bread Ocicat.

Recently, Joe and I had seen a kitten in our backyard and talked about bringing him to the vet and taking him in. I felt bad for him! We left out milk and tried to lure him in but he was scared. Anyway, I’ve always disliked cats but only because I used to be deathly allergic to them. I’ve been around cats at family and friends houses recently and haven’t noticed any sniffles or puffy eyes, but then again I never touched them because I was scared of what would happen.

We knew that a dog was not an option because of our work schedules. I would never want to leave a dog home alone for that long. Cats were an option we discussed. On Thanksgiving Day, my Uncle was talking about how he wanted to find a new home for his cats because he travels for work often. I immediately chimed in and said I’d take Gus because he mentioned that he doesn’t shed a lot and people with allergies are rarely affected by him. The next day, he stayed with us at my Mom’s to see if I would have an allergic reaction. Lucky for me, a minor sneeze here and there and a slightly red eye was all I experienced. I read that once you live with one for a while, you can become immune to it. The fact that I didn’t blow up like I used to was a relief and Gus came back with me to New Jersey.

He was a little skitzy at my Mom’s house but for some reason he warmed right up to our living room. He and Joe met for the first time on Saturday night.

Since then Gus has become very comfortable around the house.

I never thought I would say this, but I am a cat lady. I didn’t know I could fall for an animal so quickly! He has the funniest personality and constantly makes me smile and laugh.

Since, I haven’t experienced any major allergies and I am so happy!

Excuse me in advance for becoming one of those bloggers who posts a million pictures of their animal (okay, I get it now guys! Smile).

Monday, I began a new endeavor, which I will get into at a later time. Today, I am flying to New Orleans for the Athletic Business Conference until Friday. Now I have two boys to miss!

My flight wasn’t until 1:20 today. I am thankful that it wasn’t delayed due to the snowy conditions.

I’m going to read a bit for the rest of the flight. See you in NOLA!

Again, this was written yesterday!

I’ll post about NOLA later this week! Smile

Awww, welcome Gus! He’s really pretty!

I have two cats and love them to pieces. Zach was allergic to cats, but totally adaptad and now the cats sleep on his head and he never sneezes. Even his Mom is starting to become immune to them.

Cats rock!

What a beautiful cat! My husband and I come from dog-owning families, but cats are so funny and they’re much more low-maintenance!

Awww, what a cute new family member! My kids are always begging for a cat but I am deathly allergic to them and go into full blown asthma attacks when I am around them. If I am visiting a friend or relative with one, I ALWAYS have the inhaler close by. Weird though because I grew up with them and seemed to have no issues at all back then.

Ocicats are one of the coolest breeds! My aunt had two while I was growing up, and you’re right, they have the BEST personalities! Congrats on Gus!!

All these pictures makes me want to get a new cat. I never had pets growing up and ended up loving my BF’s cat after we got used to each other : )
