It’s always such a sad feeling when your birthday week/weekend is over. You get all hyped up and then it’s over so fast. Bummer. Luckily, my birthday present from Joe happens sometime in July, but more on that another time!
Saturday started off with an awesome birthday workout.
I took inspiration from Naomi’s Bust Through Your Cardio Craziness workout to come up with this.
- run one mile
- 3 sets of 10 each: squat jumps, burpees, and pushups
- run another mile, faster than the first one
- 3 sets of 10 each: barbell clean and press, barbell squats (use heavier barbell since you’ll only be doing 10 of each), high plank shoulder taps (10 each side)
- run another mile, even faster if you can!
- 3 sets of 10 each: one arm dumbbell row (10 each side, heavier weight), triceps dips, wall sits (as long as possible)
- run one more mile and make it the fastest!
After 4 miles total and all of those exercises in between, I felt like I was going to puke….in a good way!

The rest of my birthday consisted of beautiful flowers….
from Joe (above) and from my best friend Claire (below).
and lots of cake.
My mom sent cupcakes to my work! How sweet is she? She sent a mixture of vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet (yes, there are sparkles in the icing). My coworkers also got me a cookies and cream cake and sang to me, but that was gone before I had a chance to take a picture! They did get me a personal peanut butter cake, too. Obviously my peanut butter obsession is no secret.
Joe and I managed to devour that on Sunday.
The center was filled with peanut butter cake and a peanut butter and chocolate filling. It’s hard to tell the difference in the picture, but it was delicious.
Anyway, thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday on my blog, twitter, facebook, instagram, in real life, text messages, and any other way that might have occurred and I left out. Seriously, you all made my birthday extra special!

Joe took me out for my birthday dinner on Sunday since we were both working on Saturday. For some reason, I always associate a big steak with being the perfect birthday meal. So, a steakhouse is was! Luger’s isn’t open on Sunday, so we decided on Keen’s which is near Herald Square in NYC.
The only thing not pictured was the raw bar platter appetizer which had the best tasting lobster I’ve had in a long time!
Steak, thick cut bacon, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach made for the absolute perfect dinner. Talk about a cheat meal, but hey, that’s what birthdays are for right!?
The décor was neat – the ceiling was lined with pipes which I thought was pretty cool.

I could probably fool you into thinking this isn’t’ a healthy living blog after seeing all of that food, right? It’s okay because after my workout this morning, I fueled with a super healthy mixture of hard boiled eggs with sea salt, brown rice tortilla with peanut butter and bananas, and a green smoothie that included frozen peaches, berries, and spinach.
I was supposed to “end” my birthday weekend today by celebrating with my friend Chelsea who’s actual birthday is today. We were going to head down to the beach, but we had some crazy thunderstorms! Instead, I made it a productive day and we’re going to go tomorrow.

The winner of the Gnu Bar giveaway has not contacted me yet. Head over to the original post to see if it’s you. If I don’t hear back by Wednesday, I’ll choose a new winner.
Also, you have one more day to enter my Chobani giveaway!
Happy Monday!
