This past Monday, I was invited to attend a Technogym – “The Wellness Company” event at the showroom in SOHO in New york City. We were able to check out some of the home and gym equipment that this Italian based company has recently brought to the US.
As soon as we walked in, I noticed the odd exercise mechanisms on the walls.
I knew it was going to be something really neat and couldn’t wait to be shown how they work! Josh Holland (Madonna’s personal trainer!) gave us a quick demonstration.
There are handles at the top, sides, and bottom of the pulleys and you can basically move any which way to work any part of your body. It’s so cool! I want one!
The resistance is controlled by circle that is touch sensitive and you move your finger around it to adjust it.
This machine had a mirror behind it instead of the leather. So many options!
As we walked further into the showroom, we spotted this.
Kim, the marketing manager for Technogym, explained to us how the treadmill has a web ready touch screen interface where you can browse Twitter & Facebook, surf the web, and connect your iPod.
Say what? A fitness bloggers dream! I could run and be on google reader at the same time? Maybe someday. It’s $9,000!
I sipped on a glass of champagne as we were offered some delicious hors d’oeuvres of tuna and salmon tartare.
We eventually headed to the back of the showroom where A.B.K leather company was making custom bracelets for us.
We were given the option of a leather keychain or bracelet, but I went with a bracelet.
As they were making mine, I noticed that they are located on Henry Street! I squealed a little, remembering how I used to live on Henry Street when I lived in NYC a few years ago.
When she was finished, I added the bracelet to the collection I already had on my arm.
I chose J V for Jillian Veronica (my middle name). Hey, what if I get married someday?
We eventually walked downstairs and saw the neat backdrop on the way down.
How cool, right? Downstairs, we saw the more gym based product, rather than home gym equipment, so it was a little less chic.
Apparently, some NYSC and Equinox gyms in the city carry Technogym’s products. They offer treadmills with the touch screen for the gym, too!
Let’s hope all gyms eventually have this technology!
We made our way back upstairs where Josh showed us some moves on the Kinesis.
Katie rocked some upper body exercises, even in a skirt!
I asked him to show me some leg exercises afterwards.
It looks like he’s torturing me, huh? Rain boots aren’t really conducive for split squats, we’ll leave it at that. He also showed me some non weight bearing exercises.
I talked to him for a bit about how I was studying to be a personal trainer. He was so nice, outgoing, and helpful! He manages a few upscale gyms in the city with his partners. He asked if I had any idea where I wanted to work when I was finished and I said “not really”, so gave me his card! How awesome would it be to train clients at the Trump SOHO gym? Okay okay, I need to get my certificate first, I know!
I ran into Jocelyn who I haven’t seen since the Lady Foot Locker event. I forgot how sweet she is! I’m so glad I ran into her because we ended up discussing some fun plans that we are trying to execute in the near future!
Despite the rainy day in NYC, this event made my night! Thank you Michelle, for giving me the opportunity to attend. I had a blast!
