I’m Going, Going, Back, Back, To…

I woke up bright and early slept until last minute and went to the gym before I had to be at the airport for my 1:10 flight to LAX. Joe and I both did some abs and then hopped on side by side treadmills. I did a 45 minute interval workout, mixing up incline walking/running and 20 seconds @ 9.0, 40 seconds @ 6.0. Nothing crazy, I was basically just thinking about California the entire time I was running.

I had 1/2 an avocado left from last night’s dinner and decided to add it to my smoothie this morning for some healthy fats.

I’ve seen this done before and thought I’d give it a whirl. I added the following to the blender.

  • ice
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 T. flax meal
  • a large handful of spinach
  • a handful of raspberries & blackberries
  • stevia packet
  • 1 T. Hershey’s dark cocoa powder

Those in bold were added after I tasted it and it was a bit bland. I think the avocado really brought out the chocolate flavor for some reason. It was really thick and creamy and absolutely delicious after adding the cocoa and sweetener.

After slurping down my protein smoothie, I hopped in the shower and finished my last minute packing. It always gives me anxiety that I am going to forget something because there are things you can’t pack until the minute you leave because you’ll need them. I hate that. Almost as much anxiety as going through airport security gives me. I always have a ton of crap, my electronics, jewelry, shoes, scarf, jacket, bag of liquids (ie. lipgloss, eye drops), and my snacks. Then you have to throw it all back on in like 2.5 seconds. Please, stress me out a little more before I have to get on a 6 hour flight. Then the luggage carousel, don’t get me started.

Anyway, my morning list is usually my electronics, chargers, makeup, bathroom stuff, snacks, medicine, and today: sneakers, since I had to wear them to the gym this morning. I also forgot to wear my jewelry and had to have Joe turn around and go back! I’d probably have a heart attack with no watch for 5 days, especially being 3 hours behind already!

After all that nonsense, Joe dropped me off at the Newark airport and we said our goodbyes. I miss him already! I checked in, went through security, and immediately grabbed Starbucks.

I also had a Chobani in hand at another food place, but she promptly informed me that it was $4.75 and I nearly had a heart attack. “Just the water?”, she said. How did she know? Jeez! I just waited until we boarded and quickly dug into my peanut butter sandwich and banana. I took bite for bite.

Also, since when do you not get a free meal on flights over 6 hours? Not that I wanted airplane food, but last time I flew (in July), we got a free meal. They only offer for purchase at around $9-$10 per option.

Okay I’ll stop complaining about food prices. Speaking of food…any suggestions on places I need to eat while in Cali? Near Long Beach slash staying in Irvine. And any one going to the IIN conference that wants to meet up? Clare and I are going to try.

Okay I’m saving this post to publish when I land (how do I always choose flights without wifi?), studying some PT, and probably snacking on a Luna Bar. See ya in Cali!
