Expiration Dates

My sleeping habits and appetite have been off lately. Not in a bad way necessarily, but just different. I feel like I go through phases. Maybe the constant changes are due to changes in my workouts and diet, but I could also assume that they are stress related.

I am able to stay up later on the weekends lately, rather than zonking out at 10pm like an old lady. I have been having a little bit easier of a time waking up early during the week for my workouts, too. But, I am ravenous by 11:30am and end up eating lunch super early. I don’t know what’s up, but overall I feel good, so I am not going to complain.

This morning I got in a full 30 minute ab workout. I missed doing that since I’ve either had boot camp or slept in and just did cardio the past few weeks. I followed up with 30 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the stairmaster. The stairmaster and I have acquainted quite nicely. It’s another option from running rather than just the elliptical, and it’s seriously a leg workout in itself. My calves and quads burn the whole time!

Lunch

All week, I’ve been snacking on the homemade hummus and tabbouleh I made this weekend. They both came out pretty good if I do say so myself! Hummus is so easy — I’ll probably be making my own from now on, especially because now I have an entire tub of tahini to use! I’m excited to experiment with different flavors.

No, I am not home for lunch today. These pictures are recycled from Saturday. I immediately made myself a plate after preparing the two. I ate a whole wheat pita on the side, half toasted into pita chips and half soft, because I can’t make up my mind like that. I also mixed some of the hummus with goat cheese because it’s awesome.

Joe and I needed a re-stock on our Netrition supplies (ie. protein powder, shakes, etc.). When I was placing our order, I noticed that the PB2 peanut butter cracker thins I have been wanting to try were on sale. Why? Because the expiration date was October 1. Mmmm.. oh well! $1.99 for a 6 oz. bag? Count me in.

Right next to the free gym towel that always comes with my order. I can put that right on top of the other 16 in the bathroom.

Anyway, they’re pretty good. So far, I’ve tried them on top of a smoothie bowl and greek yogurt. Approved! I mean I rarely hate anything that involves peanut butter so that’s really not much of a surprise.

  • Do your sleeping habits and appetite change frequently?
  • How do you feel about expiration dates? (I normally am pretty lenient unless it’s dairy or something that can seriously make you sick.)

I am pretty strict with perishable exp dates but I would totally eat those crackers. They pad those dates I’m sure ;)

I would be all over those crackers despite the expiration date. I totally turn my nose about refrigerated items that are expired (despite the 7 day ‘rule’ on them), but a few days on pb crackers is risk worthy. ;)

Homemade hummus is so much better than store bought in my opinion! And so much cheaper when you already have a big ole jar of tahini. You should try adding basil, I did that once and it was really tasty.

I was thinking that! I have a bunch frozen that my boyfriend’s mom gave me from the garden!

My sleeping habits are all over the place because I essentially have chronic insomnia (haha fun!), but these past few months I’ve had an especially hard time pulling myself out of bed. I’m jealous that you’ve been able to wake up early!

Ehhh I’m lenient with expiration dates. Meat/dairy I’m more careful about, but I figure a cracker won’t kill ‘ya!
