Hi, friends! I am plugging back in from a long Labor Day weekend of beach-ing and eating. It felt so good to get a break from work and unplug for a few days, but I am back with a bang this morning.
Last week, I told you guys how I signed up for a demo boot camp class at my gym. Well, that took place this morning at 5:00AM. I was a little apprehensive. Not only because I thought I was going to puke after all of the food I ate this weekend, but because I am not usually a class type of person. I am more comfortable heading to the gym on my own time and completing my own workouts.
I really needed something to push me out of bed earlier and help get my routine back after summer slacking. Well, this class did just that. I’ve seen this class go on in the room, since one side is windows, and thought that it wouldn’t be that hard. I was definitely wrong.
We started out with 5 stations set up. Each station had 2 exercises to rotate between. We would stay on each exercise for 45 seconds until he blew the whistle and then we’d switch. After two rotations we’d move onto the next. It looked a little somethin’ like this:
- Barbell shoulder press
- Hover plank to standing plank
- 10 sprints
- squat to overhead press
- Quarter squat while doing bicep curls
- Dumbbell pushup rows (rotating arms on whistle)
- Seated squats w/ weight
- Side to side jump lunge on lifts (help with this name please?)
- High step-ups with weight
- Mountain climbers
Then, we lined up and did faster intervals of all of these exercises. We sprinted some more, and ended with abdominals which included the most pain inducing plank hold I’ve ever felt in my life.
By the end, I was dripping sweat. It was no joke, I seriously did not think it would be as hard as it was. The instructor is known to be pretty good. Joe knows him and I was hoping that he was the one teaching the class. There is another free demo on Thursday….hmmmm, to torture myself or not?
I wanted to keep it light and nutritious after a long weekend of indulging.
- 1/2 frozen banana
- a ton of ice
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 scoop natural SunWarrior
- 1 packet Amazing Trio
I topped it with chia seeds, a fresh fig from Joe’s uncle’s garden, and some leftover banana bread from the farmer’s market.
Now, attempting to get to work on time with the likely day-after-labor-day morning traffic. Ugh!
