Aside from the fact that it’s Friday, this morning sucked on so many levels.
I had to be at work at 8:30, which means I had to be at the gym by 5:00 if I wanted to get in the full workout I had planned. Of course, I snoozed and walked out the door at 5:20. When I stepped outside, it felt like there was literally no air to breathe in. It was so hot! I knew it was going to be, but when it is that bad, that early, you know there’s going to be problems.
My right hip was bothering me this morning, which is most likely the effect of my run yesterday. I decided that the bike was probably my safest bet today. I ended up doing a hodge podge workout in the short hour that I had.
First, I did the bike for 10 minutes on level 8. Then, I did
- Assisted Squats: 15 @ 50lb.
- Stiff leg dead lifts: 20 @ 45lb. (I could probably increase the weight) (10 second rest)
Repeat 6x, only resting 10 seconds in between
- 20 lunges holding two 10lb. dumbbells, 2 sets
This is when I began to break a serious sweat. I usually do from squats for some reason, but I think the heat bumped it up a notch today. I did another 5 minutes on the bike to loosen my hip up.
- Glutes (machine):20 lb, 15 reps, 2 sets
- Hip adductor: 100 lb, 20 reps, 4 sets
- Assisted calve raises: 95 lb, 25 reps, 4 sets
I did another 10 minutes on the bike on level 8. From only doing a total of 25 minutes on the bike, and no running, I couldn’t believe how sweaty I was.

I made my usual favorite smoothie except I added 1/4 cup oats. Yesterday, I read Courtney’s post and realized that it was almost the same smoothie I always make, except with oats. Good idea girl!
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 2 scoops SunWarrior
- lots of blackberries
- a large handful of spinach
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 frozen banana
- a few peices of ice
I was in heaven. Although, next time I will probably add 1/3 cup oats!
I drank it on the way to work, but I still consumed my new favorite Kashi bar as well as a Starbucks iced venti skinny caramel macchiato. I had another free drink coupon since I spend my life savings there on my gold card. I always go for the expensive stuff with those!

Lunch was my second hodge podge for the day. Don’t laugh, it’s all I had left in the house until I make it to the grocery store tomorrow.
I packed a whole wheat sandwich thin and topped one half with spinach and artichoke hummus and the other half with goat cheese and honey (which was a stolen packet from Starbucks). I love that combo! I also brought my greens in the form of leftover broccolini from Joe’s restaurant. Apparently when the tops turn yellow, chef can’t serve them. They tasted fine to me!
An apple an almonds (unpictured) were also consumed.
Our building is turning the AC down this afternoon to conserve energy. NYC may have blackouts today apparently if everyone does not adhere to ConEd’s requests. I won’t complain if we need to be sent home due to the heat index!
